Business Education Partnership

Philadelphia Works continues its efforts to enhance Philadelphia’s Youth System by growing the provider network and increasing the capacity of the system. The Business Education Partnership (BEP) is one opportunity to increase capacity, pilot new strategies, and support young people. Philadelphia Works and partners have utilized these annual funds awarded through the PA Department of Labor & Industry, to provide services for seniors in targeted Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, an opportunity to take part in an internship during the school year with the goal to assist with post-secondary transitions into employment including pre-apprenticeship/apprenticeship opportunities. Currently, the BEP is working with students connected to Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation and Logistics CTE programming.

Due to the success, Philadelphia Works and partners plan to transition this activity to other funds to pilot a new strategy providing career exposure to seventh-grade students advancing to eighth grade. These efforts can advance the School District of Philadelphia efforts to attract more students into high-quality programs in CTE high schools and support the strategic vision of the City of Philadelphia’s workforce strategy, Fueling Philadelphia’s Talent Engine. This strategy can allow students to engage earlier in career pathways as well as increase their understanding of post-secondary transition planning and ultimately support connection to the workforce and/or post-secondary education.
