Philly’s cult-favorite festival of bold brews and heavy riffs is back. On Sunday, August 24th, Split Thy Skull: Reemergence will take over 421 N. 7th Street with a reimagined celebration featuring some of the gnarliest beverages in the world — including intense mezcal, imperial stouts, funky rums, super hoppy beers, and bitter amari — alongside local artists and a soundtrack of pure metal, all in support of Circular Philadelphia.

The kitchen will be open throughout the day serving spicy, satisfying fare to balance out the potent drink selections. On the music side, DJ Double Hockey Sticks will keep the energy heavy with an all-vinyl metal soundtrack.

Beyond the music and drinks, Split Thy Skull: Reemergence has a deeper purpose. Proceeds benefit Circular Philadelphia, an organization dedicated to building a circular economy in the city. Rather than following the traditional “take-make-waste” system, Circular Philadelphia works to create sustainable cycles where materials are reused, repaired, and reimagined. From composting food scraps to reusing construction waste, the nonprofit is helping Philadelphia minimize waste, create green jobs, and build a more resilient future.

Split Thy Skull has long been a beloved fixture of the city’s beer scene. Originally founded in 1995 at Sugar Mom’s as a barleywine festival, it later found a home at Tattooed Mom before its final pour in 2017. Now, with the blessing of Tattooed Mom, Doom and Home Brewed Events are reviving the festival, infusing its legacy with new energy and a purpose-driven mission.

This year’s event is split into two sessions:

  • 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Ticketed): Guests can sample a curated lineup of some of the world’s boldest beverages, from imperial stouts and funky rums to smoky mezcals, hoppy beers, bitter amari, and more.

  • 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. (Pay-as-you-go): The festival opens its doors to the public for half pours priced at $6 each, offered while supplies last. This session is a nod to the festival’s original free-form style at Tattooed Mom.
